Systematics and botanical history
The first specimen of this species was brought to Europe from Low. The first specimens were thought to be Phalaenopsis equestris and were simply thrown away. When the error was noticed, Reichenbach described this new species in the Botanische Zeitung in 1865.
Are described as forms Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana f. ochracea and Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana f. delicata in the Orchid Atlas by Manfred Wolff and Olaf Gruss 2001. The same forms were described as varieties in the Gardener's Chronicle by Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach in 1865 . They are considered synonyms of Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana by the botanists of the Royal Botanic Gardens (Kew) , London .
Furthermore were Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana var. Hieroglyphica to 1969, Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana var. Pulchra or Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana var. Purpurea to 1968 and in the meantime Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana var. Pallens as varieties of lueddemanniana described, now the former varieties form the species Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica , Phalaenopsis pulchra and Phalaenopsis pallens .
