Philippe Alméras (born February 22, 1980 in Montpellier ) is a former French racing driver .

Philippe Alméras is the son of Jacques Alméras , a French racing driver who was active between the 1970s and 1990s and, together with his brother Jean-Marie , Philippe's uncle, ran a successful racing team for many years.

Career

After starting out in karting , the professional racing career began in the French Formula Renault championship in 2000 . With three wins of the season in 2001 he reached third place in this championship behind Eric Salignon and Julien Vidot . Well-known competitors this year were Bruno Spengler , Nicolas Lapierre , Alexandre Prémat and Patrick Pilet . 2002 moved to the French Formula 3 championship , but remained there unsuccessfully.

From 2003 he drove national and international Porsche Cup and GT races for his father's team. In 2006 he was overall seventh in the French Porsche Carrera Cup (overall winner Anthony Beltoise ), a final position that he was able to repeat in 2007 (overall winner Patrick Pilet ). He also played in the French GT Championship and the International GT Open .

Like his father and uncle, Philippe Alméras also competed in the Le Mans 24-hour race . In 2004 he drove a Porsche 996 GT3 RS in Luc Alphand's team and came 16th in the overall standings.
