Philology is an Italian jazz - label based in Macerata .

Philology was founded by Paolo Piangiarelli in mid-1987, initially to release music by his idols Chet Baker , Lee Konitz or Phil Woods in Italy, such as the 3-LP set The Macerata Concert by Phil Woods as the label's first album, followed by previously unreleased Live recordings by Charlie Parker ( Bird's Eyes, Last Unissued ) and Lester Young ( Prez's Hat ). In the years that followed, the label released its own productions and live recordings by Italian musicians such as Gianni Basso , Fabrizio Bosso , Francesco Cafiso , Stefano Di Battista , Stefano Bedetti , Franco D'Andrea , Giovanni Mazzarino , Enrico Pieranunzi , Enrico Rava , Renato Sellani and Massimo Urbani as well as recordings by international artists such as Albert Ayler , Stan Getz , Royce Campbell and Peggy Stern .

Philology Jazz also runs several sub-labels: Bird's Eyes , Phil Woods In Italy 2000 , Revelation Series .
