Moss leaves ( rosette rose moss )
meter-long phylloids ( sugar wrack )

Phylloids are flat, leaf-like structures of thallophytes . Like the leaves of vascular plants , they serve as an organ for photosynthesis . However, they differ in their simpler structure and the lack of real vascular bundles .

Phylloids occur in leafy mosses , the mostly delicate structures are also known as “leaflets”.

Phylloids are also found in highly developed algae , such as many brown algae . In these, the phylloids are coarse and can grow to several meters.
