Piancavallo is an Italian town in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region . It is a fraction of the municipality of Aviano and is best known as a winter sports area. The village, which has around 1500 inhabitants, is located at an altitude of 1267 meters, below the 2251 meter high Monte Cavallo. In the 1980s and 1990s, races of the Alpine Ski World Cup took place here several times .
