Pierre Bovet (born June 5, 1878 in Grandchamp near Boudry , † December 2, 1965 in Boudry) was a Swiss psychologist and educator at the University of Geneva . He was involved in the movement of reform pedagogy .

Bovet's father was a theologian and professor in Neuchâtel . Pierre studied in Neuchâtel and Geneva until he obtained his doctorate in 1902. He married Amy Babut (1878–1967) from a pastor's family from France. Her son Daniel Bovet (1907–1992) received the 1957 Nobel Prize for Medicine .

First, Pierre Bovet was from 1903 high school teacher and then university lecturer for philosophy and psychology at the Academy of Neuchâtel (1907-1912). He worked on a pacifist magazine L'Essor in 1906. At the request of Édouard Claparède , he went to Geneva to head the Jean-Jacques Rousseau Institute , where he remained until 1944. From 1919 he also taught at the University of Geneva. He also brought Jean Piaget there , whom he had met at the Amici Naturae. Together with Adolphe Ferrière and Claparède, he founded the International Bureau of Education (IBE) in 1925 , which also wanted to maintain peace and which he headed from 1925 to 1929. He had many international contacts, cultivated Esperanto and met Gandhi in India in 1938. He himself was close to the Quakers . Bovet translated Lord Baden-Powell's Scouting for Boys and other Boy Scout books into French.

Bovet saw respect as the prerequisite for morality. Born out of fear and love, it forms the basis for instructions to be recognized as rules. The sum of the received and accepted do's and don'ts make up the sense of duty . Piaget developed Bovet's theory further.
