Pierre Yver (born July 23, 1947 ) is a former French racing car driver .

Career

Yver was best known as a sports car driver and in this context his name is closely linked to the 24 Hours of Le Mans . In addition to the endurance race on the Sarthe, the Frenchman competed in all major sports car races between 1978 and 2001. He made his Le Mans debut in 1978 on a Lola T296 as a team partner of Michel Elkoubi and the later Formula 1 driver Philippe Streiff . Hindered by several unscheduled pit stops, the trio crossed the finish line, but were not counted after only 233 laps due to insufficient mileage. In the following years Yver came as a works driver from Jean Rondeaualways to Le Mans. However, he achieved his greatest success at Le Mans not for Rondeau, but for another French racing team owner, Yves Courage . For his team, he drove a Porsche 962C in 1987 together with Jürgen Lässig and Bernard de Dryver in second place in the overall ranking. The German Lässig became his regular co-pilot in the following years until 1992.

In the mid-1990s, Yver switched from the large prototypes to the GT class, where he competed primarily in the French championship until 2001.
