Pieter Stalpaert (* around 1572 in Brussels , † before 1636 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch painter.

Life

Stalpaert was a son of the tapestry Jeremyas Stalpaert . On March 28, 1599, Stalpaert was 27 years old and married Bayke (nee de Hartichs). They lived in the new town near the Korsgenspoort. Jan Hans Korensetter was his uncle. On November 13, 1603, their son Johannes Jeremyas was baptized in the Dutch Oude Kerk in Amsterdam, with Tanneken Felbier and Jeremias Stalpaert being named as witnesses. Since he was referred to as a painter Dutch Schilder in the documents , it can be assumed that he had been working in Amsterdam since 1599. On April 9, 1611 he married a second time, his wife's name was Mayke [n] (nee de Walperghe). Around 1615 his son Daniel Stalpaert was born, who became a city architect in Amsterdam in 1648. In a document dated July 26, 1639, it says that Daniël Stalpaert was 24 years old at the time and was also a painter. He lived with his mother and uncle Abraham de Walperge on Conninxgrach.

Based on his earliest known painting, it can be assumed that he may have been influenced by Maerten de Vos . So far only a few works can be assigned to him that identify him as the creator of religiously influenced marine images and landscapes.
