Pili annulati (Latin for ringed hair ; singular pilus annulatus , from Latin pilus 'hair' and annular 'ringling') are a hereditary skin disease in which the hairs on the scalp show stripes that are visible to the naked eye. Hair growth is not affected. The disease is autosomal - dominant inherited .

Under the light microscope , the light sections have air-filled gaps that do not allow light to shine through under the microscope and thus appear dark under the microscope. Electron microscopy shows the hair cuticle to be wavy and the hair cortex to show intracellular spaces in the fiber bundles.
