Pilosocereus lanuginosus is a species of plant in the genus Pilosocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet lanuginosus means 'woolly hairy, short-wooly, downy'.

description

Pilosocereus lanuginosus grows tree-shaped, branches out from a trunk and reaches heights of up to 10 meters. The upright shoots are initially strong blue, then turn blue-green and glaucous and have a diameter of 6 to 10 centimeters. There are usually 9 to 13 ribs with transverse furrows. The initially black with red thorns later turn gray or are yellow. Of the 1 to 4 2 to 7 centimeters long central spines, one is significantly longer than the other and directed downwards. The 9 to 15 radial spines are 10 to 20 millimeters long. The flowering part of the shoots is clearly marked and includes two to three ribs. Thorns and a white to light brown, 2 to 3 centimeter long wool arise from the areoles there.

The bell-shaped white flowers are 6 to 7.5 centimeters long and can reach a diameter of up to 4 centimeters. The depressed spherical, more or less purple-red fruits have a diameter of 3 to 3.5 centimeters and contain a more or less purple pulp.
