Pilosocereus quadricentralis is a species of plant in the genus Pilosocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet quadricentralis means 'with four central spines'.

description

Pilosocereus quadricentralis grows tree-shaped with a distinct trunk, branches well above the base and reaches heights of growth of up to 5 meters. The upright, glaucous green shoots have a diameter of 7 to 8 centimeters. There are 8 ribs. The thorns, which are thickened like onions at the base, are initially brownish red and later gray. The 4 spreading central spines are 2 to 3.5 centimeters long. The 11 to 13 splaying radial spines are 10 to 20 millimeters long. The flowering part of the shoots is clearly defined and is located to the side or near the tip. The areoles there are rich in white wool.

The flowers are "large" and not further described. The spherical fruits have a diameter of up to 4 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Pilosocereus quadricentralis is common in the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Chiapas . The first description as Cephalocereus quadricentralis was published in 1948 by Elmer Yale Dawson (1918-1966). Curt Backeberg placed them in the genus Pilosocereus in 1960 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
