Plattentests.de , previously Plattentests Online , is an e-zine that focuses on reviews of current album releases . Most of the sound carriers discussed belong to the rock music and indie camps, but also selected pop , folk , metal , electro , alternative country and hip-hop records are dealt with.
The website has existed since autumn 1999, and was extensively redesigned in 2000 and 2009 . In addition to the founder of the site Armin Linder with Thomas Pilgrim, Stephan Müller, Jennifer Depner, Pascal Bremmer, Eric Meyer, Kevin Holtmann and Felix Heinecker, the editor-in-chief also includes seven other editors. In addition, more than 20 other people work as writers for Plattentests.de. Lukas Heinser is one of the former employees .
The project is financed through advertising income from banner displays and affiliate programs.
Reviews
For the reviews, the editors use a scale from 1 to 10 points. " The Brotherhood " by Running Wild and " Dance Of Death " by Iron Maiden were given the joke 6.66 / 10. The readers of Plattentests.de have the opportunity to rate the albums discussed themselves; the average reader rating is displayed in addition to the editorial rating.
In addition to various “ surfing tips ”, each record review has a “References” section in which reference is made to “Influences of the band and comparable sounding bands”.

More content
There is also a heavily frequented forum on Plattentests.de, and the website also offers specials at rare, irregular intervals, which mainly consist of interviews , festival reports and annual polls. Every week, a “record of the week” is chosen and featured prominently on the website. The reader charts are available in a separate area on the website, and Plattentests.de also offers a newsletter . Occasionally, tours by music groups are also presented by Plattentests.de.
Meaning and reception
Plattentests.de is due to its extensive reviews at a high level as "an authority on music journalism on the Internet". Several of the site's employees were recruited from stylistically similar music magazines such as Visions , Spex and the German edition of Rolling Stone . In the annual charts of these magazines, Plattentests.de occasionally achieves high positions. In 2006, the website came in third place in the Visions reader survey behind the official Visions website and that of the Spiegel .
In a reader survey of the Intro , Plattentests.de took sixth place in both 2006 and 2008, and in 2016 it was eighth in the category "Best Blog / Best Website". In 2007 the site was ranked twelfth in Spex , in 2012 and 2014 the site was ranked seventh in the "Best Website" category and in 2013 it was ranked fourth. The Musikexpress led the site in 2006 in eighth place and in 2008 in tenth place. In the 2011 annual poll of this magazine, the site was voted fourth and in 2012 ninth. In 2014 and 2016, Plattentests.de reached fourth and eighth place respectively.
On the occasion of the 15th and 16th birthday, Plattentests.de organized two anniversary celebrations in Munich, at which Thees Uhlmann ( Tomte ), Markus Acher ( The Notwist ) and the Scottish band There Will be Fireworks performed. Both parties were sold out.
Annual album charts
At the end of each year, readers of the site are asked to submit their favorites of the year to Plattentests.de. In 2009 more than 2500 people took part. After evaluating the submissions, the results are compared with the editorial favorites in the so-called “annual poll ”.
