The Plauer Bridge is a bridge over the Havel in Brandenburg an der Havel in the district of Plaue . The bridge is now also known as the Old Plauer Bridge, since a new bridge was opened over the Havel in 2002 and the Plauer Bridge was closed to vehicle traffic. The bridge connects Plaue with the Margarethenhof district.
history
The Havel is generally wide, but here in Plaue it is of course narrowed. For this reason there was a bridge here as early as the 13th century. In 1244 the bridge was destroyed. From 1459 there was a bridge again, but it was destroyed in various wars (including the Thirty Years War ). But it was always rebuilt. In 1829 the newly built bridge collapsed under the load. The post line Berlin - Magdeburg ran this way. The bridge was rebuilt from 1836 to 1837.
The current steel bridge was built from 1903 to 1904. The bridge is 130 meters long and 10.7 meters wide. There are two supports in the river bed, the span between them is 42.7 meters. The bridge is a riveted steel truss bridge with semi-parabolic truss girders. The railings were built in the form of Art Nouveau . The roadway is paved and there was a tram track on the northern edge of the roadway . At the end of the Second World War , the middle part of the bridge was destroyed. The bridge was rebuilt after the war. On September 28, 2002 the tram traffic over the bridge was stopped and the car traffic of the B 1 passed over the new bridge. The old now dilapidated bridge can be used by pedestrians and cyclists. The footpaths, which consisted of wooden planks, have been dismantled except for the iron girders and are now closed.
meaning
There are only a few bridges left from before the First World War . Its design in Art Nouveau makes it an important architectural monument.
