Pozzi (artist family from Ticino)

Pozzi is a family of artists from the Swiss canton of Ticino .

Known Members:

  • Antonio Pozzi (* around 1525 in Coldrerio; † after 1593 in Rome ), son of Filippo, building contractor, he employed other family members as bricklayers, including Angelo, Giovanni and Tommaso Pozzi, who worked on the Lateran Basilica and the Vatican Palace in 1597; on August 25, 1593 he signed a contract with the Apostolic Chamber for the expansion of the palace in Rome begun by Sixtus V ; for this work he allied himself with his compatriots Antonio Bolino, Ambrogio Lucca and Tommaso del Pozzo. In his home village, Antonio is credited with designing the parish church of San Giorgio.
  • Filippo Pozzi (* around 1545 in Coldrerio; † after 1605 in Rome), son of Antonio, architect, he built the aqueduct and the water theater for Cardinal Pietro's Villa Aldobrandini in Frascati .
  • Domenico Pozzi (* around 1560 in Coldrerio; † after 1638 in Rome), son of Donato, building contractor, builder; 1583–1585 he was paid to work on the Quirinal Palace in Rome. He was also the executive builder of the Church of Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini .
  • Giacomo Pozzi (* around 1595 in Coldrerio, † after 1677 in Trento ), architect; he came with the architect Bartolomeo Bianchi from Coldrerio, with whom he had previously worked in Genoa , to Trento, where they built the Carmelite monastery Delle Laste around 1640. He settled in Trento with his family.
  • Andrea Pozzo (also: Puteus und Pozzi; born November 30, 1642 in Trient; † August 31, 1709 in Vienna ), from Coldrerio, son of Giacomo, painter and architect. It is also no coincidence that Andrea spent two years studying in Como with a student of Pier Francesco Mola from Coldrerio.
  • Carlo Maria Pozzi (1676-1747), Ticino plasterer, working in Fulda , on Berleburg Castle , in Castle Biebrich , the Idstein Castle (ca. 1714) and in the castle Philippsburg in Ehrenbreitstein.
  • Francesco Pozzi (1704–1789), plasterer from Ticino

  • Joseph Anton Pozzi , Giuseppe Antonio P. (1732–1811), plasterer from Ticino.
