Pretty in Pink is an American film released in 1986 . The romantic comedy tells the story of a teenage couple in love who come from different social backgrounds.

action

Andie comes from a simple background and goes to a school that is mainly attended by children of wealthy parents. Andie buys her clothes in the thrift store , which earns her condescending remarks from her wealthy classmates. She works with her friend Iona on the side in a record store. There she meets Blane, who comes from a good background. You're going to meet on a date. This annoys "Duckie" Dale, who comes from the same class of society as Andie and has had an eye on her for a long time. On a second romantic date, Blane invites Andie to go to prom with him.

Blane is viewed crookedly by his association with Andie in his clique . The different couple does not fit into either of the two groups of friends: Andie feels uncomfortable at the parties of the wealthy children and Blane is turned on in her disco because of his conservative clothes. Andie is ready to face the hostility and doesn't care about other people's opinions, while Blane can't take it. He avoids Andie and no longer calls her. When Andie meets him in the school hallway, she wants a debate. She asks him to tell her face that he is ashamed of his rich friends for her. Blane evades and then claims that he forgot that he had already asked someone else and could therefore not go to the ball with her.

Andie doesn't let the rejection get her down and is determined to go to the ball alone. She has already received a dress from her father, and Iona is giving Andie her 1960s-style prom dress. Andie uses the two dresses to tailor a completely new creation in pink. When she shows up alone at the prom, Duckie meets her and leads her into the ballroom. There they meet Blane, who has come alone. Blane apologizes for his behavior and tells Andie that he still loves her. Then he goes. Since Duckie now realizes that he can never get together with Andie, he asks the initially reluctant Andie to follow Blane. She finds him in the parking lot, they kiss and it comes to a happy ending.

Reviews

"Sympathetic, well-acted teenage romance, which of course deals with all deeper problems, albeit with elegance."

“Pretty in pink is loved or hated because for many a class M planet dweller, the kitsch limit is quickly exceeded and consistently and unconditionally indulged in superficiality. Clichés are exhausted and, incidentally, little postcard slogans are interspersed that fit perfectly with pop culture. In any case, Pretty in Pink is the ideal time machine for those who experienced the 80s and they will perhaps find themselves / lose themselves in this film when the countless songs from this decade are heard ... "[...] Regardless, the dialogue, scenarios, and emotions on display in Pretty in Pink are as close to real as 1980s teen romances could get. [...] It may not be the greatest love story ever told, but it might be the one with the most heart. "

"All in all, Pretty in Pink is a diverting and generally colorful 'teenage wish fulfillment' flick that has the decency to offer one of the finest soundtracks ever featured in an '80s movie. It's not deep, and it's far from original, but Hughes' word processor still had a little magic left in it, and the superlative cast lifts the movie above the Treacle Line at every conceivable opportunity. "

It's not profound and certainly not original, but Hughes' writing style still manages to be a bit enchanting, and this cast of superlatives takes the film over the kitsch line at every conceivable opportunity. "Pretty in Pink is evidence, I suppose that there must be a reason why certain old stories never seem to die. We know all the cliches, we can predict half of the developments. But at the end, when this boy and this girl, who are so obviously intended for one another, finally get together, there is great satisfaction. "
