Primary tumor

In a malignant , metastatic tumor, the primary tumor ( primary tumor ) is the original tumor from which the metastases ( filiae ) originated .

In some cancers , the metastases are initially noticeable through symptoms. You have retained some properties of the original fabric to a greater or lesser extent, e.g. B. the expression of certain proteins. Knowing the tissue origin is important in order to determine the response of the degenerated cells e.g. B. to assess chemotherapy or radiation . The purpose of the search for the primary tumor is therefore to adapt the therapy and to estimate the prognosis .
