Prudnoje, however, is not (any longer) in the former German town of Alt Wehlau, which is deserted, but in the area of a district on the former Reichsstraße 142 , today Regionalstraße 27A-016, ex R 514 , which before 1945 went to Sanditten, today in Russian Lunino , belonged. The former Oppen branch, which was initially renamed Prigorki in Russian, also belongs to Prudnoje.
Prudnoje is located two kilometers north of Znamensk (Wehlau) on the north bank of the Pregel (Russian: Pregolja). The Russian trunk road R 514 in the direction of Polessk (Labiau) runs through the village . The nearest train station is Snamensk on the Kaliningrad – Nesterow railway line (Königsberg – Stallupönen / Ebenrode) , a section of the former Prussian Eastern Railway , for onward travel to Lithuania and the Russian heartland.

The Gutsdorf, known as Alt Wehlau until 1946, with a watermill ("Alt Wehlauer Mühle") was originally part of Sanditten (today Russian: Lunino) and was incorporated into the district of the same name via the mother community . This was in the district of Wehlau in the administrative district of Königsberg in the Prussian province of East Prussia . The small town, which had only 59 inhabitants in 1905, belonged to the municipality of Wehlau (Russian: Snamensk) in 1939 .
In 1945 Alt Wehlau came to the Soviet Union with all of northern East Prussia and in 1947 was given the Russian name Prudnoje. At the same time, the place was included in the Sorinski selski Sowet village in Gwardeisk Raion . From 2005 to 2014 the place belonged to the rural municipality Sorinskoje selskoje posselenije and since then to the urban district Gwardeisk.
