Peripteros with pteron

Pteron ( Greek  τὸ πτερόν , neutr. - the wing) is the area that runs around the cella in a columned temple such as the Peripteros , the Dipteros and the Pseudodipteros (the space in which one can stay is called Peridromos ). The pteron is formed by the distance between the outer border of the columnar ring (the peristasis ) and the cella wall. It offered the faithful a covered shelter near the cella wall and could also be used for cult processions.
