Ptolemais (daughter of Ptolemy I)
Ptolemais ( Greek Πτολεμαίς ; † after 287 BC) was a daughter of the Hellenistic king Ptolemaios I of Egypt and Eurydice , a daughter of Antipater .
In the course of a peace agreement of her father Ptolemais was around the year 298/297 BC. Betrothed to Demetrios Poliorketes . Her future husband was openly polygamous and his first wife Phila was her maternal aunt.
The marriage, however, could only be possible in 287 BC. When Ptolemais was brought to Miletus by her mother , where she first met Demetrios personally, who had just lost control of Greece and Macedonia . After only a few days of married life, Demetrios went on a campaign to Asia Minor , during which he was ultimately captured by Seleucus and died in captivity a few years later.
The short marriage resulted in a son, Demetrios the Beautiful († 249/248 BC), who later became king of Cyrene .
