Puerto La Cruz is a city in the state of Anzoátegui in Venezuela .

Originally Puerto La Cruz was a fishing village, and through tourism it developed into a city with 220,000 inhabitants and thus one of the largest and most popular tourist cities on the entire east coast.

In addition to tourism, the city has one of the largest Venezuelan oil ports on the Caribbean Sea. This is also the reason for the state of the beaches and the water in front of the city, which are not suitable for swimming.

Outside the city there are many beaches and the Mochima National Park on the islands of de Plata (Silver Island), Conoma and Arapito.

The city is connected to Lechería , known for its canal construction with a connection to the Caribbean Sea . This enables many residents to moor their boat or yacht right on their doorstep.

Sports

The city is home to the Marinos de Anzoátegui basketball team (11-time Venezuelan champion, most recently in 2015). As well as the baseball team Caribes de Anzoátegui (Venezuelan champions 2011 and 2015).
