history
In 2003 Jon Courtney formed the band Pure Reason Revolution at Westminster University in London with his brother Andrew, Chloe Alper, John Dobson and Gregory Jong. With the exception of Jong, they had previously played in the band Sunset Sound.
After many rehearsals and writing songs, the first single "Apprentice of the Universe" was released in 2004. It made it into the top 20 of the alternative charts and number 74 of the single charts.
At the end of 2004 and beginning of 2005, two more singles, "Bright Ambassadors of Morning" and "Intention Craft", and an EP, "Cautionary Tales for the Brave", were released on their own label Holograph. The latter was only released because the band could not finish the recordings for their planned debut album in time.
In the spring of 2005, Pure Reason Revolution played at several festivals in the USA and England as a support act for Mew, Hope of the States and Oceansize . Gregory Jong then left the band and was replaced by Jamie Willcox. On April 10, 2005, the debut album "The Dark Third" was released, which was widely recognized by critics.
In 2006 Andrew Courtney left the band and was replaced by Paul Glover. Pure Reason Revolution often played as the opening act for Blackfield , including during their European tour.
As of March 2009 the band consisted of Jon Courtney, Chloe Alper, Jamie Willcox and Paul Glover. The second album "Amor Vincit Omnia" was released on March 6, 2009 on the Superball Music label. A third album ("Hammer and Anvil") was released on October 15, 2010.
On August 9, 2011, the band announced that they were breaking up after a final UK tour in November 2011. The reason given by the members was changed personal circumstances.
