Qingyin Garden

The Qingyin Garden ( Garden of Beautiful Melody ) is a Chinese garden in Stuttgart .

location

The garden is located at half height on the northern edge of the Stuttgart basin ( Kriegsberg ) and offers a view of the city center.

history

At the International Horticultural Exhibition in 1993 , a number of national gardens were established in Rosenstein Park . One of them was the Qingyin Garden, a gift from the Chinese province of Jiangsu to the state of Baden-Württemberg. After the garden show, these gardens could not remain in Rosenstein Park. A sponsoring association was founded for the popular Qingyin Garden, which, with the support of companies, rebuilt the garden at its current location in 1996.

Ten years later, the sponsoring association transferred the garden to the Stuttgart Beautification Association . The city gave him a heritable building right on the property.

layout

pavilion

The facility is modeled on a typical southern Chinese garden. A gatehouse leads into the interior of the enclosed garden. Inside there is a graceful hall with walls made of red lacquered wood and a raised roof, and a square open pavilion in the same style on a small hill. A pond in the middle of the garden is fed by a stream that descends over rocky steps. The name of the garden refers to a poem by Zuo Si, the poet of the Western Jin Dynasty :

"Not only lute and flute
but also mountains and water make
a beautiful melody"

- Zuo Si

This poem is recorded on tablets on the sides of the pavilion and the stone in the center.

There are sayings and poems in other places in the garden as well: handwritten dedications from dignitaries in Jiangsu Province, the garden architect, and the director of the horticultural company. These were enlarged on boards and placed in the garden. At the gatehouse you can find:

"A full moon has no price
Mountains and water are so friendly"

At the hall:

"Ten thousand pines in the season of evergreen
A narrow stream falls into a deep pond"

At the stone arch behind the hall:

"Standing cloud"
