Quill & Quire is a Canadian literary magazine about books and publishing that was founded in 1935 with an average print run of 5,000 copies. The publisher assumes a readership of 25,000 recipients, as it is considered one of the most important review journals for Canadian literature and is therefore present in many academic and public libraries. The focus of Quill & Quire is on the meetings of novels , short story collections and anthologies . It also publishes general news on the North American literary scene and the publishing industry, literary portraits or interviews, and provides a forum for discussions on general trends in the publishing industry. The online version also presents an extensive review archive of 7716 reviews dating back to 1996, a job exchange and an event calendar.

history

Founded in 1935 by Wallace Seccombe's Current Publications, the original editorial focus of Quill & Quire was to support the emerging English-language Canadian literary scene by discussing interesting books. In 1971 Michael de Pencier bought the magazine from Southam Newspapers , who owned it for just six months.

Quill & Quire stayed with de Pencier as part of the Key Publishers / Key Media consortium for 30 years until it was sold to St. Josephs Corporation in 2003 as part of a larger Key Media transaction. This Canadian company is active in the print and media sector and is headquartered in Concord , Ontario .
