Roman Catholic Church in Andorra

The Roman Catholic Church in Andorra was never an independent diocese , but always belonged to the Spanish diocese of Urgell , whose bishop , together with the French president , is also the head of state of the miniature state.

The majority of Andorrans (approx. 90%) belong to the Roman Catholic Church. The diplomatic representation of the Holy See is carried out by the apostolic nuncio , who is usually also the nuncio in Spain. Archbishop Bernardito Cleopas Auza has been Nuncio in Andorra since October 1, 2019 .

The Marian festival Nossa Senhora de Meritxell is considered an Andorran national holiday.
