Rúnar Kristinsson (born September 5, 1969 in Reykjavík ) is a former Icelandic football player and current coach . The midfielder is Iceland's record international player with 104 caps.

Club career

He started his career at the amateur club Leiknir Reykjavík before moving to Iceland's largest football club, KR Reykjavík , at the age of 14 . Here he had his first successes and in 1995 moved to Sweden to Örgryte IS , later to the Norwegian club Lillestrøm SK and finally to Belgium to SC Lokeren . In 2007 he returned to his old club, KR Reykjavík. Rúnar scored 95 goals in 445 professional games. He ended his career at the end of 2007.

National team career

From 1984 to 1991 he played in various youth teams in Iceland. 1987 was called up for the first time in Iceland's national team, where he played 104 games by 2004 and scored three goals. He was the captain eleven times.

Coaching career

After the end of his active career, he worked as a football coach. In July 2010 he became the head coach of his former club, KR Reykjavík . In 2011 and 2013 he won the Icelandic championship with his club. At the beginning of 2015 he moved to Lillestrøm SK in Norway. He worked there until his release in September 2016. A month later he succeeded Georges Leekens at SC Lokeren . In August 2017 he was replaced by Peter Maes . Since the beginning of 2018 he has been in charge of KR Reykjavík again.

Individual evidence
