Rüdiger Liwak

Rüdiger Liwak (born September 21, 1943 in Stadthagen ) is a German Protestant theologian .

Life

From 1966 to 1971 he studied Protestant theology as well as Egyptology and Assyriology in Münster and Bochum . From 1971 to 1976 he was a research assistant . After graduation ( tradition historical problems of the book of Ezekiel. A study on postezechielischen interpretations and compositions ) 1976 in Protestant theology book of Ezekiel he was from 1976 to 1984 research assistant at the chair of Old Testament at the University of Bochum . After his habilitation in 1984 in Protestant theology for the Book of Jeremiah, he taught from 1984 to 1990 as a professor for the Old Testament with special attention to the ancient oriental environment as well as the topography and archeology of Palestine at the Ruhr University in Bochum. In 1990 he was appointed to the Church University of Berlin . From 1993 to 2008 he taught as a professor for the Old Testament with a focus on the history of Israel and the ancient Near Eastern environment at the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 2007 to 2009 he headed the Institute for Church and Judaism at the Humboldt University in Berlin. Since 2009 he has been Benno Jacob visiting professor at the Abraham Geiger College at the University of Potsdam .

His main research interests are the Bible, its ancient oriental environment and the translation work of the Rabbi Ludwig Philippson .
