content

The film portrays Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who is hated by some and regarded by others as an icon of pop culture , who at the age of 85 in 25 years was involved in numerous judgments on women's rights and discrimination at the Supreme Court . She served as the second wife after Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court.

Betsy West and Julie Cohen tell the life of the judge from childhood to the present. One learns about her origin from a Jewish family of immigrants in Brooklyn , New York , the expectation of her mother to always be a "lady" who does not allow herself to be carried away and strives for financial independence. During her studies she met her husband Martin D. Ginsburg (1932-2010), married him in 1954 and had their daughter Jane. She was admitted to Harvard Law School as one of nine students, and in the evenings she looked after her 14-month-old daughter and the man who was suffering from cancer. After graduating, she initially struggled to find work, then became a lecturer, lawyer, and then a Supreme Court Justice under President Bill Clinton .

The film follows the trials before the Supreme Court, which she led as a lawyer and then as a judge, briefly portraying the fate of each of the plaintiffs and suggesting the consequences of the judgments. Bader Ginsburg has a say, as does her late husband, their children Jane and James and a granddaughter. Bill Clinton recalls their meeting in 1993, there are documentaries from the US Senate hearing that same year. Gloria Steinem highlights their importance. There are scenes of a workout with a personal trainer , recording visits to the opera, and public appearances in front of young people who greet them with frenetic applause. In one scene she comments on the jabots in her closet that she wears instead of the judge's robes. You can see mugs with her likeness, t-shirts and even photos of tattoos . Twice she utters the sentence "All I ask is that our brothers take their feet off our necks."
