Raúl Montenegro
Raúl Montenegro (* 1949 ) is an Argentine biologist . Since 1985, Montenegro has been Professor of Evolutionary Biology at the National University of Córdoba (Argentina) .
He has prevented the construction of nuclear power plants , held the chemical industry accountable for its pollution , and made people aware of the effects of large industrial projects on their environment. He also works for the rights of indigenous people in Argentina and spreads their traditional knowledge about the sustainable use of nature.
Montenegro is the founder of FUNAM, an environmental NGO .
Awards

- 2004: Right Livelihood Award for excellent and extensive work with local communities and indigenous peoples to protect the environment and natural resources in Latin America and elsewhere
- Honorary Doctorate from the University of San Luis
