The Radeklint on the map of the city of Braunschweig prepared by Friedrich Wilhelm Culemann in 1798 .

The Radeklint is a central intersection in the city center of Braunschweig . It is part of the new Braunschweig city ring. The original Radeklint was a square, the development of which was destroyed in the Second World War and was relocated in the decades that followed by a new traffic route.

etymology

The square in Neustadt was mentioned in 1320 as Radheclint , in 1336 it was mentioned as uppe deme radheclinte . The square got its name from the local craftsmen, the Rademachers . "Klint" describes a hill that rises from a river valley (in the case of Braunschweig the Oker ). Klinte were therefore close to the Oker, within the city wall and rose from the lowlands.

history

In 1710 a straight connection was created between the Radeklint and the Bäckerklint square . This was created in connection with the relocation of the Petritores.

In the 1960s the Radeklint was relocated to the northwest, to the intersection of the streets Celler Straße, Lange Straße, Güldenstraße and Neuer Weg. On September 4, 1962, road construction work began for the new Radeklint traffic intersection. On July 25, 1963, the new stretch of road from Celler Strasse to Radeklint was released. This section was initially called Am Petritore . Weberstrasse and Beckenwerkerstrasse, which historically ended at the Radeklint, were no longer connected to the Radeklint.

The new tram line from Hagenmarkt to Radeklint opened on November 14, 1987. Since then, the Radeklint has been the end point of a tram route on line 4.

On August 6, 1989, the St. Petri Pharmacy on Radeklint 2 celebrated its 100th anniversary. From 1889 to 1944 the pharmacy was located at Radeklint 13. The Grüner Löwe department store was located at old Radeklint 2.
