Rafaela von Bredow

Rafaela Countess von Bredow (* 1967 ) is a German journalist and author .

Life

After studying biology in Berlin, she attended the Henri Nannen School in Hamburg, then worked at GEO and in 1998 went to the news magazine Der Spiegel : initially for three years as a US business and science correspondent in San Francisco, then as a science editor in Berlin. From 2008 she was Deputy Head of the German Politics Department in Hamburg and in 2009 she became Deputy Head of the Germany Department. Together with Jochen Leffers, she developed the Spiegel Job magazine , the first issue of which was published in April 2013. From June 2013 she headed the science department together with Olaf Stampf and since May 2020 she has been the author of the science department.

Awards

For her cover story in GEO about homeopathy , Bredow was awarded the Carl Sagan Journalist Prize of the German Chapter of the Skeptics Society , the GWUP . She won the Europe Prize of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (“International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources ”, abbreviated IUCN ) together with the Spiegel editors Philip Bethge and Christian Schwägerl for outstanding environmental reporting.
