The Ragnitz is a place in the Grazer Hügelland in Styria , and part of the municipality of Kainbach bei Graz in the Graz-Umgebung district . Incorporated parts form the cadastral community Ragnitz of the city of Graz . The place also includes the two places Äußere Ragnitz in Kainbach and Innere Ragnitz , a district of Graz-Ries . Usually adjacent areas in the Graz district of Waltendorf and in the municipality of Hart bei Graz Ragnitz are also mentioned.

Usually the place name is used with an article. The name is derived from rak , the Slavic word for cancer. When naming Äußere Ragnitz and Innere Ragnitz , it is not the course of the water, the Ragnitzbach, that decides, as usual, but the location in Graz. The Outer Ragnitz is therefore upstream.

The place consists of the Graz district Innere Ragnitz  (approx.  400  m above sea level ), and the two Rotten Ragnitz  (approx.  450  m above sea level ) and Äußere Ragnitz  (approx.  500  m above sea level ), the spread in the Ragnitztal , the valley of the Ragnitzbach.

The Inner Ragnitz, the cadastral municipality of Ragnitz of the city of Graz, extends from the borders to the districts of Geidorf (not far from the Graz regional hospital, university clinic ) and St. Leonhard (at the confluence of the Ragnitzbach and Stiftingbach to the Leonhardbach ) on the north side of the Ragnitzbach to opposite the Schweinberg ( 535  m above sea level ) at the city limits, with the locations Haidegg, Fuchsriegel , Zach , which represents the valley of the Schweinbergbach.

The settlement area south of the brook, d. H. the left bank of the stream and the northern slope of the Ruckerlberg and the Lustbühel , belongs to the Graz district of Waltendorf and the municipality of Hart bei Graz . These parts of the Ragnitz Valley, which actually lie outside the Graz cadastral community of Ragnitz, are commonly referred to as Ragnitz, e.g. B. the housing estates on Ragnitztalweg.

The L 327 leaves the Ragnitztal at Ragnitz along the Milchgrabenbach to Neudörfl , the Outer Ragnitz includes the more remote houses in the rear valley. The Inner Ragnitz and the town of Ragnitz are accessible by the city bus line 58, which connects the main station via St.Leonhard / Landeskrankenhaus with the terminus at the Park & ​​Ride car park Ragnitz every 10 minutes.
