Rainer Flöhl

Rainer Flöhl (born January 14, 1938 in Mannheim ; † February 14, 2016 ) was a German science journalist . From 1980 until his retirement in 2003 he was head of the “Nature and Science” section of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung .

Life

Flöhl grew up in Main Franconia; He graduated from high school in Haßfurt am Main in 1957. Flöhl studied chemistry and after graduating in 1964 began to write his first science journalistic articles for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ). In 1967 Flöhl joined the FAZ's features section. In 1974 he was also a biochemical work on the transport of sugars through biological membranes (title: "For radioactive synthesis and biochemistry tritiated effectors of the lac system") doctorate . From 1980 to 2003 Flöhl headed the “Nature and Science” section of the FAZ, where he mainly dealt with the subject of medicine. His abbreviation for the FAZ was "RF".
In the mid-1980s, Flöhl headed the medical department of the FAZ subsidiary Die Neue Ärztliche - general newspaper for clinics and practice , a daily newspaper for doctors that appeared from 1985 to 1991.
Flöhl was a co-founder and on the first board of the science press conference .
