The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium is a cricket stadium in Dehradun , India .

Capacity and infrastructure

After Uttarakhand split off from Uttar Pradesh , the state lacked the infrastructure to take part in national Indian cricket. Then this stadium was built. The stadium has a capacity of 25,000 and is equipped with floodlights. The two wicket ends are the Pavilion End and the Southern End .

International cricket

Since Afghanistan cannot play international cricket due to the security situation on home soil, it first decided to move to the United Arab Emirates and then to India. The stadium became the first home ground for the Afghan team and played the first Twenty20 series against Bangladesh here in June 2018 . The first and so far only test match at this stadium took place in March 2019 between Afghanistan and Ireland . The first One-Day International took place on the same tour . The Afghan team decided to move to Lucknow for the 2019/20 season on the grounds that there were no adequate accommodation options in the city, especially no five-star hotels .

National cricket

The stadium is the home of Uttarakhand in Indian national cricket.
