Ralf Faber (born September 12, 1948 ) is a former German soccer player . The midfielder and defender played a Bundesliga game at SV Werder Bremen in the 1968/69 season and won the German amateur championship with the amateurs of 1. FC Köln in 1981 .

Career

Faber learned to play football at Schwarz-Weiß Düren, where he played until the first year of the A-Juniors. Then he moved to SG Düren 99 in the second year . Here he was able to establish himself in the first senior year as a regular player in the first team that played in the third-class Mittelrhein Association League. The Bundesliga coach of Werder Bremen, Fritz Langner , became aware of the member of the Middle Rhine selection . Werder Bremen signed a two-year contract with Faber. In the 1968/69 season , however, he was substituted on only in one encounter against the later runner-up Alemannia Aachen . On the 29th matchday he came on in the 76th minute for Horst-Dieter Höttges . In midfield, Fritz Langner primarily relied on experienced players such as Diethelm Ferner , Max Lorenz and the Danes John Danielsen . The young Faber was signed as a perspective player. After the first year as a professional, he was reamateurised and rejoined SG Düren 99. Here he soon developed into a leading player. For the 1974/75 season Faber left the club after relegation to the regional league and was committed to the second team of 1. FC Cologne , which played in the Mittelrhein association league. In the "second suit" of the Bundesliga team, Faber soon became a leading player, won the Middle Rhine Championship in 1976/77 and finally celebrated his greatest sporting success after seven years with the billy goats as captain under coach Erich Rutemöller . The German amateur soccer championship in 1981 was the crowning achievement: In the RheinEnergieSportpark # Franz-Kremer-Stadion , FC St. Pauli was defeated 2-0 in front of 6,000 spectators. He then ended his active career at the age of almost 33. He then switched to sports journalism and headed the local sports department at the Kölner Stadtanzeiger for several years .
