Raoul Frank

Raoul Frank (born May 1, 1867 in Linz , † January 13, 1939 in Oberalm near Salzburg ) was an Austrian landscape painter .

Life

Frank studied painting in Graz , Berlin , London and in the years 1891 to 1894 when Gustav Schönleber at the Academy in Karlsruhe . Later he lived mostly in Munich , Habsburger Strasse 4. He was a professor at the local academy and member of the Luitpold group of artists founded in 1896 .

From 1907 to 1910 he headed the equipment department at the Vienna Burgtheater . Frank was married to Adélaide von Löwenstern (October 23, 1868 Oberalm near Salzburg - December 15, 1955 ibid) He made numerous trips, mostly to coastal regions, for example to Sylt , the Adriatic Sea and England .

At first he painted naturalistic , later he was influenced by Art Nouveau and Expressionism . His subject was the landscape, often enriched by architecture, but his favorite painting was coastal scenes with the sea and ships.

Frank's pictures have been exhibited in Munich's Glaspalast , Berlin, Dresden , Düsseldorf , Prague and Vienna , among others . He also worked in the arts and crafts (e.g. carpets) and as an architect (including extensions to the Villa Schloss Höhenroth in Grafrath ). Frank was a master at depicting moving water. He became popular through postcard series , for example from the area around Trieste .
