The RASTAL GmbH & Co. KG (from Rest ertechnik and Krist al l), based in Höhr-Grenzhausen in Westerwald is a manufacturer of decorated drinking vessels, especially of beer glasses . The company has around 440 employees at production sites in Höhr-Grenzhausen, Ransbach-Baumbach , Chur and Gleiwitz and produces around 100 million decorated drinking vessels every year.

history

The company was founded in 1919 by Eugen Sahm in Höhr-Grenzhausen as a wholesaler for stoneware , glass and porcelain . After the Second World War, a new branch of business was created with glass processing - at that time mainly in the form of classic hand painting, supplemented by our own pewter foundry for the manufacture and attachment of pewter lids. After the company's founder died in 1952, the sons Günter and Werner Sahm took over the management of the company, which from then on specialized in glass refinement using manual screen printing and transfer image processes. In 1959 the company name Rastal was developed - derived from the terms "grid technology" and "crystal". In 1964 Rastal developed the idea of branded exclusive glass. The basic idea: a glass design developed individually for a brand that is reserved exclusively for this brand. Up to this point in time, the beverage brands mostly used standard glass shapes typical for the region. The Bitburger Cup, which the Bitburger Brewery still uses in the catering industry today, was the first branded exclusive glass that was realized by Rastal. Many other well-known glass shapes, such as the Warsteiner tulip or the Veltins cup, followed. Today Rastal is considered the market leader in this area. More than 100 concepts have been implemented for beverage brands worldwide in the last 10 years alone.

Administration building Rastal GmbH & Co. KG

Since 1984, the company has been increasingly focusing on fully automatic multi-color decoration. In 1992, Raymond and Stefan Sahm, the third generation, took over management of the company. In 2008 Rastal was the first company to introduce UV technology for glass decoration. In 2015, the company relocated parts of the production from Höhr-Grenzhausen to Gliwice , Poland, thereby further expanding this location. Raymond Sahm and his son Maximilian have been the sole owners of the company since 2015.

Branches

The subsidiary in Gliwice (Poland) was commissioned in 1995 as a production and sales location for the Eastern European market. In 1997 a further subsidiary was founded in Castel San Giovanni especially for the Italian market .
