The rough asparagus ( Asparagus pseudoscaber ) is a species of the asparagus genus ( Asparagus ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).

Rough asparagus is a perennial , herbaceous rhizome plant that reaches heights of 70 to 110 (rarely 40 to 200) centimeters. The main shoot has about 10 papilla-rough ribs. The branches are directed horizontally. The dummy leaves are green or slightly bluish. Male flowers are 5 to 6 millimeters long, female 2.5 to 3 millimeters. The flower stalk is 15 to 25 (rarely 10 to 35) millimeters long.

The flowering period extends from May to June.

Occurrence

Rough asparagus is found in southern and eastern Romania , western Ukraine and possibly also in Serbia . It grows on floodplain meadows, on damp sandy coasts and also endures salt soil.

Rough asparagus is rarely used as an ornamental plant.
