Raymond Poïvet

Raymond Poïvet (born June 17, 1910 in Le Cateau-Cambrésis , † August 30, 1999 in Nogent-le-Rotrou ) was a French cartoonist .

Artistic career

After studying at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris , he became an illustrator. His first comic biographies about Christopher Columbus , Napoleon Bonaparte and other greats in world history appeared in 1940 . This was followed by comic adaptations of classics such as Robinson Crusoe and King Kong . From 1945 he drew the science fiction series Les Pionniers de l'Espérance , initially for Vaillant magazine , which was published in Germany as the Raumagent Alpha series by Bastei Verlag . Roger Lecureux provided the texts . The series appeared until 1973.

In the 1970s Poïvet was involved in the Larousse series Histoire de France en bandes dessinées (volumes 2, 6, 7, 14 and 19) and La découverte du monde en bandes dessinées (volumes 10 and 12). Parts of these series have also been published in German - the former integrated into the Classicomics series (volumes 10-13), the latter from Bastei under the title Die Eroberung der Welt . He also drew contributions to the Larousse series Discover the Bible in the 1980s . This series has been published entirely in German.

Poïvet has also drawn for other magazines, including the Colonel X series for Coq hardi , Mam'zelle Nitouche for L'Humanité and Guy Lebleu for Pilote .
