The Realschule am Eichholz was a Realschule in Arnsberg. It is named after the neighboring Eichholz forest area . It existed since 1962 and was split into "Realschule I" and "Realschule II" on August 1, 1972, as the number of students had grown enormously. On August 1, 1989, the schools were reunited. One reason was the redesign of the secondary school districts. Since the students from Müschede and Bruchhausen came to the secondary school in Hüsten, the number of students in Arnsberg fell. On January 25, 1991 the school officially got its current name.

The school was closed with the 2018 summer vacation. The last time the teaching was held on June 27, 2018. The last certificate handover was on July 6, 2018.

The school's students were organized in a student council, the former students, teachers and parents in a development association.

Various projects were offered at the school, including a so-called “girls' promotion” against sexual abuse, etc. and also a “sports helper training”.

The school had a fixed schedule for the class trips, which included 3 class trips during the entire school period, in addition to up to 3 one-day hiking days per school year and class. Secondary school students regularly visited the twin town in Poland as part of the town twinning between Arnsberg and Olesno .

The circular gym

Sport was taught in the circular gymnasium on the other side of the Ruhr. For several years now, people have not been swimming in the adjoining indoor swimming pool, which has since been closed, but most recently in the Arnsberg swimming pool "Nass", which was reached by bus.

The school hit national headlines in 2006 when some students filmed the crime on a mobile phone during violence against classmates . When this became known, cell phone use was banned on school premises. Other schools such as the Laurentianum Arnsberg grammar school followed this ban . Against the negative image evoked by individuals, the students organized a day of action against violence. For several years the school took part in the project run by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, an independent school . As one of the first schools in Arnsberg, the Realschule was subjected to a quality analysis by experts from the Detmold and Arnsberg district governments in 2007 with a good result.

The secondary school on Eichholz has been located in the buildings of the Realschule am Féauxweg since 2015 . In its final years, the secondary school had moved to the premises of the Theodor-Heuss-Hauptschule on Sauerstrasse, which in turn had been relocated to the Hüsten district .
