The restaurant Rebenhäuschen (house address Nützenberger Straße 94 ), which was demolished in 2010, was one of the oldest buildings on the Nützenberg in the Elberfeld-West district of Wuppertal and was a listed building .

The two-storey residential building facing the street with a restaurant , known as the vine house, was built into the slope, so it is only one-storey on the rear side. The gable roof was extended and the gable ends were slightly hipped. The façade facing the front was smoothly plastered, the gable sides were clad with horizontal wooden boards. The front of the house on the street side was laid out on seven axes. On the western side of the gable, a small area shaded by trees was set up for outdoor catering.

history

According to the Lower Monument Authority, the building was erected between 1820 and 1849. According to another source, it is around 300 years old and was originally a customs house on the old Nützenberger Straße , which was probably the route of an old old street Neuss-Herdecke . The excursion restaurant goes back to a foundation in 1887.

On August 2, 1993 the building was entered in the list of monuments of the city of Wuppertal.

In the early morning hours of August 22, 2009, the roof of the building burned out. According to initial information, the fire damage is estimated at 250,000 euros. At first it was not certain whether the building could be saved, based on the initial assessment there was a risk of collapse and the building was cordoned off. The investigation of the cause of the fire by the police had to be canceled after seven weeks. The preliminary investigation was unsuccessful in October, but there were no indications of deliberate arson. At that time, however, the tenant of the vine house was still willing to rebuild the house, taking into account the historical preservation requirements. At times the house with the destroyed roof structure was protected from the weather by an emergency roof.

The building was completely laid down in September 2010; subsequent use of the property is not planned for the time being.
