Red beans and rice is a stew from the southern states of the USA, which is particularly typical of the New Orleans region and originally comes from Creole cuisine , but can also be found in Cajun cuisine in Louisiana .

The stew, the main ingredients of which are red beans (often kidney beans, but also special red beans from Louisiana) and rice , is traditionally prepared on Mondays with smoked or cured ham bones left over from the weekend, which are boiled out in the dish and give it additional seasoning.

Other frequently used ingredients are smoked sausages and garlic as well as the so-called "Cajun Trinity", which consists of onions , sweet peppers and celery , is seasoned with a strong Tabasco sauce .
