The Reformed Church Affoltern am Albis is a Reformed church building in Affoltern am Albis . It is known for the tower end designed by Gottfried Semper in 1861 .

history

A small devotional chapel has been recorded in Affoltern since 1050. In 1160 a Romanesque church was built, which in 1480 had to give way to a much larger Gothic new building.

After the Reformation , the church was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1645 to a choirless hall church, as it corresponded to the changed liturgical needs of the Reformed. In 1861 the church was rebuilt again, this time in the neo-Gothic style that was predominant at the time . Gottfried Semper designed the tower's upper floors. The last expansion of the church took place in 1901.

description

The church built on a hill above the village is particularly noticeable because of the striking "Semperturm". Semper's tower end with tracery - sound windows , stepped gables and glazed bricks is characterized by neo-Gothic design language. The clock face of the tower clock is in the unchanged tower stump from 1480. The baroque design language of the nave with segmented arched windows and cornices is broken through on the main facade by a neo-Gothic sign and quatrefoil window.

The interior of the ship largely corresponds to the scheme from 1645. The rear of the longitudinal room is occupied by a gallery resting on two pillars . The discreetly painted pilasters on the walls have volutes - capitals decorated with plant garlands and egg bar friezes . Apart from the stucco cartridges on the ceiling, the church has only a few architectural sculptures . The wooden pulpit is on the left of the ship.

The end of the church, designed by Arthur Rüegg in 2002 and running diagonally to the right, is illuminated by a window that is not visible from the ship. The retracted closing area is flanked by a stylized cross and the organ . The instrument has a very modern prospect and 24 stops .
