The Regional Nature Park Oise-Pays de France ( French Parc naturel régional Oise-Pays de France ) was founded on January 13, 2004 and is located in the French departments of Oise and Val-d'Oise . It is therefore one of the few regional nature parks with an area that crosses departmental boundaries.

The purpose of the park is to preserve a cultural landscape that is relatively close to the city with numerous protected natural monuments and historical sites. The area is under strong settlement and usage pressure in the wider area of the agglomeration of Paris and the economic area around Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport .

location

The nature park is located in the south of the Hauts-de-France region and in the north of the Île-de-France region , about 80 kilometers south of Amiens and 30 kilometers north of Paris. The park area is located almost entirely on the left side of the Oise river , from the municipality of Rhuis in the north to Asnières-sur-Oise in the south. Only the municipality of Boran-sur-Oise is on the right side of the river.

The park has an area of 60,000 hectares, of which 20,000 hectares are forest. It comprises 44 communes in the Oise department and 15 in the Val-d'Oise department and has a population of around 110,000.

In the eastern part predominantly agricultural area, where mainly grain is grown.

In the park lie the two historic cities of Chantilly and Senlis , and in the outskirts it touches three other urban areas:

The landscape relief is little accentuated. It belongs to the western part of the limestone plateau in the Valois region and reaches its greatest height with the Mont Pagnotte hill (221 m above sea level).

Some valleys with small tributaries of the Oise drain the area. The larger rivers are the Nonette , the Thève and its tributary Ysieux .

Infrastructure

Important traffic routes such as the Autoroute A1 between Paris , Amiens and Lille , the old main roads Route nationale 16 and Route nationale 17 as well as the Paris – Lille railway line and the LGV Nord route run through the park area.

Natural landscape

Even before the regional park was founded, several of its sub-landscapes were placed under protection. The 20 natural monuments include the Nonette Valley, the Domaine de Chantilly area and the three larger forest areas Forêt de Chantilly , Forêt d'Halatte and Forêt d'Ermenonville .

tourism

Three of the most important destinations in Picardy are in the park area:

In the forest of Ermenonville, the old mill of Ermenonville and the valley of the Ysieux are further protected objects.

history

Since 1970, naturalists and the Société des amis des forêts de Chantilly, Halatte, Ermenonville have sought to protect the natural landscapes in the vicinity of the growing cities from the massive influx of visitors with a protection zone. A feasibility study was available in 1985 and in 1987, the European Year of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Agriculture examined the creation of a national park north of Paris. On the basis of a structure plan from 1990, negotiations began for the establishment of the regional park in the Three Forests area . In 1997 the regions of Picardy and Île-de-France ordered a more detailed preliminary study for such a park, and on January 12, 1998 an association was set up to define its statutes. On June 19, 2003, the Comité économique et social d'Île-de-France pledged to support the park project, which was presented to the Prefect of the Picardy Region in July 2003.

The Regional Nature Park was created on January 13, 2004 by a decree of the Prime Minister. The park administration was established by a decree of the Prefect of the Department of Oise of January 27, 2004 and on July 26, 2006 it moved to its seat in the Borne Blanche Castle in Orry-la-Ville .
