Reinhard Priessnitz
Reinhard Priessnitz (born October 27, 1945 in Vienna ; † November 5, 1985 there ) was an Austrian poet and essayist .
Life
Reinhard Priessnitz worked, among other things, as the editorial secretary of the magazine “Literature and Criticism” (until 1968), from 1968 as an editor at the “New Forum”, where he resigned due to the so-called “actionism debate” in 1974, as a lecturer at the “edition neue texte” ( 1976–1983) and as an editor at Medusa-Verlag in Vienna from 1983–1985. From 1982 Priessnitz was a lecturer at the University of Fine Arts in Vienna and at the University of Art and Industrial Design in Linz. Since 1966 he has published poems, prose pieces and essays in literary magazines and anthologies, and from 1976 he wrote regularly for the features section of the Vienna daily newspaper “ Die Presse ”. Forty-four poems , however, remains his only book publication during his lifetime. The texts for this work were written by Priessnitz between 1964 and 1978. In addition to the volume of poems, his poetic work comprises only a few texts and around 40 other poems. Priessnitz was a founding member of the Graz Authors' Assembly (1973) and the Bielefeld Colloquium New Poetry (since 1978).
He died of cancer and was buried in Vienna in the Pötzleinsdorfer Friedhof in an honorary grave (group B, row 8, number 118).
The Reinhard Priessnitz Prize has been awarded annually to young authors by the Austrian Federal Chancellery since 1994.
