Reinhardt Abraham (born July 15, 1929 in Kunzendorf , Silesia , † November 1, 1995 in Seeheim ) was a German manager at Lufthansa .

Abraham was born on July 15, 1929 as the son of the land manager Gert Abraham and his wife Ella nee. Lilienthal was born in Silesia. His maternal great-great-uncle was Otto Lilienthal . From 1962 he was married to Erika Nolte. From this marriage there were three children.

education and profession

Abraham graduated from school with a high school diploma. He then completed an internship at the Heinrich Hertz Institute for Vibration Research in Berlin. From 1948 to 1956 Abraham studied physics , aerospace engineering and industrial engineering at the Technical University of Berlin , which he left as a graduate engineer . During this time, as head of the university's international department, he organized the so-called student airlift to West Germany , which is considered the first major German charter flight program after the Second World War . In 1956 he joined the Lufthansa group . From 1959 he was given the task of building a maintenance center in Frankfurt am Main , which he took over when it opened in 1960. In 1970 he spent a brief stint at Harvard Business School and was named associate director. In 1972 Abraham became a member of the Board of Management of the Technology Division and in 1982 Deputy Chairman of the Lufthansa Executive Board. He also held numerous advisory and supervisory board mandates, including at Condor and Allianz .

Abraham is considered to be the founder of the modern Lufthansa fleet. The acquisition of the Junkers Ju 52 / 3m D-AQUI and the establishment of the Lufthansa Berlin Foundation are due to his commitment . The aircraft bears his name under the cockpit.
