Reinhold Hintermaier (born February 14, 1956 in Altheim , Upper Austria ) is a former Austrian national soccer player and today's soccer coach .
Career
The Upper Austrian started his career at his hometown club SK Altheim and moved to VÖEST Linz in the National League in 1973. In the blue-whites he soon joined the combat team and in 1974 won the only Austrian championship title with the VÖEST factory club . After he narrowly failed to win further titles in the championship and in the ÖFB Cup with the Linzers in the next few years , he moved to Germany in 1979. There he played successfully for 1. FC Nürnberg, Eintracht Braunschweig and 1. FC Saarbrücken.
With Nuremberg he reached the DFB Cup final in 1982 , but had to admit defeat to FC Bayern Munich 2: 4. Hintermaier's long-range shot to make it 1-0 for Nuremberg in the meantime was voted Goal of the Month in May 1982. His return to the professional squad of 1. FC Nürnberg in the 1992/93 season, where he was now active as a junior coach after finishing his professional career, was also curious. Five years after his retirement from active professional football, the now 37-year-old Hintermaier made a significant contribution to the relegation of the Nuremberg team, who were in need of personnel.
The midfielder played a total of 104 games in the German Bundesliga , in which he scored nine goals. In addition there are 138 appearances and 15 goals in the second division. It is also noteworthy that although he received a total of 26 yellow cards during his time in Germany, he was never sent off. His "specialty" were free kicks and accurate passes.
Hintermaier played 15 international matches for the Austrian national soccer team and took part in the 1982 World Cup in Spain, where he was used in all five games. The 2-2 win against Northern Ireland at this World Cup, in which he scored his only goal for Austria, was his last international match.
After his career as a player, Reinhold Hintermaier started his coaching career. Since 1992 he has been working in the youth division of 1. FC Nürnberg and other clubs in the area. He heads the football performance center Hintermaier GmbH , where children and young people can learn to play football.
