Ren Cancan ( Chinese  任灿灿 , Pinyin Rén Càncàn ; born April 26, 1986 in Jining , Prov. Shandong / China ) is a Chinese boxer . She is a three-time world champion and won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in London in 2012 and bronze in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 in the weight class up to 52 and 51 kg body weight.

Career

Ren Cancan started playing sports as a child in her hometown. At first she worked as a track and field athlete. In 2002 she switched to boxing and trained in a sports school in Jining. In 2005 she moved to the Police Sports Club in Ningbo , Prov. Zheijiang . Your trainers were or are Tian Dong and Chen Tao. Twice her career was in danger, once after a broken arm and a second time after the untimely death of her father when she lost all motivation. Her trainer at the time, Tian Dong, persuaded her to carry on every time. She is 1.67 meters tall and initially boxed in the weight class up to 52 kg and after a weight class revision by the AIBA in 2009 in the weight class up to 51 kg body weight.

In 2006 she started for the first time at an international championship, the World Championship in New Delhi . But there she lost her first fight against Saliha Ouchen from France in the weight class up to 52 kg just by points (17:18) and only came in 9th place.

In 2008 she won first Asian championship in Guwahati / India in the weight 52 kg category with wins over Yeon Kyung-chun, South Korea , Tong Song Hye, North Korea (11: 5) and an extremely tight point defeat in the final against Sarita Devi Laishram from India (5: 5+) took 2nd place. In the same year she became world champion in the same weight class in Ningbo. On the way to this title she beat Shim Hui-jeong, South Korea (23: 1), Le Thi Ngang Hang, Vietnam (8: 3), Wiktoria Rudenko, Ukraine (6: 3) and Annie Albania , Philippines (4: 3 ) each according to points.

The next international championship for women didn't take place until 2010. In September of this year she was again world champion in the weight class up to 51 kg at the world championships in Bridgetown . She had to defeat the following six opponents: Aya Shinmoto , Japan (13: 4), Nilmini Jayasinghe, Sri Lanka (11: 3), Sumeyra Kaya-Yazici, Turkey (9: 4), Peamwilai Laopeam, Thailand (+3: 3 ), Tatjana Kob , Ukraine (8: 5) and Nicola Adams , England (10: 5). In 2010, she also won the Asian Games in Guangzhou , defeating Jong Eu-na, South Korea (8: 1), Sanju Lama, Nepal (10: 0), Marykom Chungneijang, India (11: 7), the im international women's boxing known only as Mary Kom and Annie Albania (7-5)

In 2011 she won the 1st Women's Asian Cup in Haikou / China after winning points over Peamwilai Laopeam (7: 6) and Aya Shinmoto (6: 4) and at the Grand Prix in Ústí nad Labem , where she won the final Jana Juranova from the Czech Republic defeated on points (8-0).

In March 2012 she started at the Asian Championship in Ulaanbaatar . She won there over Kim Je-ji, South Korea, by breaking off in the 3rd round and over Bakhtygul Usupbayera, Mongolia , by RSC in the 3rd round, beating Ayako Minowa, Japan on points (22:14), but lost in the final against Mary Kom on points (8:14) and took 2nd place. In May 2012 she won the world title for the third time in Qinhuangdao / China. In the weight category up to 51 kg, she defeated Katalin Ancsin, Hungary (16: 4), Azize Nimani , Germany (13: 7), Marlen Esparza , United States (16: 8), Karolina Michalczuk , Poland (27:18) and Nicola Adams (14:10) each on points. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, three weight classes for women were on the program for the first time, including the weight class up to 51 kg. Ren Cancan started there with a bye in the 1st round and defeated Jelena Saweljewa from Russia on points in the 2nd round (12: 7). In the semifinals she won over Marlen Esparza on points (10: 8) and in the final she lost to Nicola Adams, who of course was carried by the British spectators in London by a wave of enthusiasm, on points (7: 1) and won the Silver medal .

After she only participated in national championships and tournaments in 2013 and took a break for 2014, Ren Cancan returned to the ring in 2015 and won the gold medal of the Asian Championships in Wulanchabu with a final victory over Ri Hyang-Mi, North Korea (2-0) . The following year she won the Asian Olympic qualification tournament in Qian'an (Tangshan) and thus secured her second Olympic participation. At the World Championships in Astana in 2016 , Ren Cancan was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Sarah Ourahmoune from France due to an injury.

National successes

Ren Cancan is a five-time Chinese champion. However, only the results from 2009 are known. That year she won the title in Kunming by beating Zhang Jing in the final.
