Required navigation performance

Required navigation performance (RNP) is in the aviation a concept of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that the required navigation performance of aircraft for the RNAV -Flugführung order to standardize on certain airspaces defined and flight procedures.

RNP is defined as a statement about the accuracy of the navigation performance that is necessary for operation in a certain airspace. It is expressed by the distance to the intended position ( target position ) that aircraft must keep for at least 95% of the total flight time. RNP 4 means that all aircraft must remain within 4 NM of their intended position for at least 95% of the total flight time . In RNP- AR , the addition stands for - Authorization Required .
