The rescue cloth , sling , mountains cloth or evacuation sheet is a tarpaulin with handles that the medical service , the ambulance service in the fire brigade or the THW to transport used for non-ambulant persons from confined environments or in difficult terrain.

This mode of transport is only conditionally gentle and is often perceived as uncomfortable by patients. It is used when, for reasons of space, neither a normal stretcher nor a scoop stretcher can be used (e.g. in very narrow spaces and stairwells). The patient is then transferred to a normal stretcher. The patient is gently turned to one side and the lengthways folded rescue sheet is placed behind him. Then the patient is turned to the other side and the cloth unfolds so that he lies on it. Another method involves straightening the patient's upper body, placing the folded sling underneath and then unfolding the sling under the buttocks down to the feet when the person is lying down again.

By folding the cloth accordingly, patients can also be carried while sitting.

Another purpose of the rescue sheet is to transport injured persons under time pressure (e.g. from a fire object), as the patient can be placed on the sheet very quickly. The rescue sheet can be folded between the patient's legs to form the upper part of the body and the carrying loops can be connected to each other on the side of the trunk with a snap hook (improvised rescue diaper). The rescue sheet can also be used to move a patient out of bed onto a stretcher .
