Reuters Instrument Code

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Reuters Instrument Code ( RIC ) is an identification system used by the financial information provider Reuters and was developed in the late 1980s. It assigns codes for financial instruments and indices.

history

The identification system was developed by the then Reuters manager Herbie Skeete, who wanted to set up a logical and structured system for unique naming and classification.

In the course of adapting to the new legal requirements of the EU-wide Directive 2004/39 / EC on markets in financial instruments (Financial Market Directive ), a large number of identification names (around 4,000) were renamed in 2007.
